TEHRAN: Iran has officially initiated an investigation into the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Reports from a U.S. newspaper indicate that Iranian authorities have detained numerous suspects in connection with Haniyeh’s murder. These detainees reportedly include high-ranking intelligence officers, military officials, and other staff members.
Iranian Intelligence Minister Ismail Khatib has claimed that the assassination attempt was backed by the United States, suggesting that foreign interference was a factor in the incident. This assertion forms part of a broader narrative of international involvement in the attack.
Further reports from British media suggest that the Israeli intelligence agency played a key role in orchestrating Haniyeh’s killing through Iranian agents. According to these sources, explosive devices were placed in three separate rooms of the guest house where Haniyeh was staying. Iranian authorities have released video footage showing the agents’ rapid movements within these rooms.
The agents who planted the explosives are said to have left Iran, with the explosives being detonated remotely from outside the country. This incident occurred on July 31, when Ismail Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Iranian President.
