TEHRAN: Reports indicate that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is facing serious health issues, raising concerns about the future leadership of the country. The New York Times reported that Khamenei, who has been in power since 1989, is expected to be succeeded by his second oldest son, Mojtaba Khamenei.
However, his declining health has sparked a “quiet battle” over succession, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) likely playing a pivotal role in determining the next leader. The situation regarding Khamenei’s health has become increasingly critical, especially in the wake of the unexpected death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash last May. This event has intensified discussions about stability and continuity within Iran’s leadership structure.
In a separate but related development, social media platform X (formerly Twitter) suspended the newly launched Hebrew-language account associated with Khamenei just one day after it went live. The account, @Khamenei_Heb, was suspended for allegedly violating X’s rules shortly after posting a warning to Israel concerning its military actions.
The post implied that Israel would soon understand the strength of the Iranian nation, reflecting the heightened tensions following recent Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian interests. These incidents highlight the precarious political landscape in Iran, with questions surrounding both Khamenei’s health and the broader implications for Iran’s relations with regional adversaries, particularly Israel.
