TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has clarified his earlier remarks after facing criticism at home, saying US bases and military installations in the region are considered legitimate targets for Iran.
In a new statement, Pezeshkian said Iran had not targeted friendly neighboring countries but had instead carried out strikes on American military bases and installations in the region. He said those facilities were used for aggression against Iran, making them legitimate targets.
The Iranian president added that the country would stand firm in defending itself and resisting threats until the very end, while also seeking friendly relations with regional states. He emphasized that this desire does not negate Iran’s right to defend itself against the United States.
Earlier, Pezeshkian had apologized during a televised address to neighboring countries affected by Iranian strikes. Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said no aggression had been carried out against neighboring states so far, but warned that if attacks on Iran continue, all US air bases and interests in the region could become targets.
