ISLAMABAD: The technical committee of the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) will convene on September 26 (Thursday) to evaluate the availability of water in rivers and reservoirs for the upcoming Rabi season 2024, which begins on October 1.
The meeting has been organized to provide a comprehensive assessment of water flows in the rivers and reservoir levels during the forthcoming Rabi season, as reported by official sources to APP on Tuesday.
The IRSA Director of Operations will preside over the meeting, which will also include participation from the Chief Engineer of WAPDA, Directors of Regulation for Punjab and Sindh, the Superintendent Engineer of Irrigation in Balochistan, the Director for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and officials from the Tarbela and Mangla dams.
The Water Accord of 1991 grants IRSA the authority to determine water availability in the country and the provincial shares twice a year—once for the Kharif season and again for the Rabi season. The Rabi season commences on October 1, while the Kharif season starts on April 1.
