GAZA: At least 30 Palestinians lost their lives in a series of Israeli military strikes across Gaza on Thursday, predominantly in the northern region where a significant attack targeted the Kamal Adwan Hospital. This strike ignited medical supplies and severely disrupted hospital operations, according to health officials in the enclave. The Israeli military has alleged that Hamas has been using the hospital for military activities, claiming that “dozens of fighters” have taken refuge there. However, both health officials and Hamas officials have firmly denied these accusations.

The northern part of Gaza has emerged as the central battleground in Israel’s ongoing military campaign, particularly following a January declaration that Israel had dismantled Hamas’ command structure in the area. Recently, Israeli tanks were deployed in cities such as Jabalia, Beit Hanoun, and Beit Lahiya, aiming to flush out fighters whom the military asserts have regrouped there.

Eid Sabbah, the nursing director at Kamal Adwan Hospital, reported to the media that some medical staff sustained minor burns due to the strike that hit the third floor of the facility. Fortunately, no casualties were reported among hospital patients or staff. This hospital was previously stormed and temporarily occupied by Israeli forces last week, during which approximately 100 suspected Hamas fighters were reportedly captured. Israeli tanks remain stationed in the vicinity, intensifying concerns about safety in the area.

In light of these developments, the health ministry in Gaza has urged international organizations to protect hospitals and medical personnel from what they describe as the brutalities of the Israeli occupation. The Israeli military defended its actions by stating that its operations in the hospital area were based on intelligence suggesting the presence of militants and their infrastructure nearby.

In a statement issued after Thursday’s strike, the military claimed, “During the operation, it was found that dozens of fighters were hiding in the hospital, with some even posing as hospital staff.” This claim has sparked widespread concern over the safety of medical personnel in the conflict zone. Medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) also reported that one of its doctors, Mohammed Obeid, was detained by Israeli forces last Saturday, calling for the protection of him and all medical staff who continue to face horrific violence as they strive to provide essential care.
