SUKKUR: An awareness program was held in Jamshoro to mark International Working Women’s Day, highlighting the role of working women in social development and the importance of safe and respectful workplaces.
The event was organized on the directives of Sindh’s provincial minister for the women development department, Shaheena Sher Ali, and arranged by the in-charge of the Women Complaint Cell, Syeda Quratulain Shah. Women police officials took part in the program, where speakers discussed the significance of International Working Women’s Day and the contributions of women across different sectors, with particular emphasis on law enforcement.
Participants were briefed on gender equality, women’s rights and the need for professional respect in the workplace. Speakers underlined the role of working women in strengthening institutions and society, while stressing the importance of supportive environments free from harassment and discrimination.
Addressing the gathering, Syeda Quratulain Shah said the Sindh government was fully committed to empowering women and reinforcing institutions to protect their rights.
She highlighted the contribution of women police officers and stressed the need for greater awareness of legal rights, workplace protections and available complaint redressal mechanisms. The session also included a detailed briefing on the functions of the Women Complaint Cell and the procedures for reporting harassment and workplace-related issues.
It concluded with an interactive discussion in which women police officials shared their views and welcomed the initiative as a step towards greater awareness and empowerment. Organizers said the program reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to promoting inclusive and equitable working environments across Sindh.
