SUKKUR: Akamatsu Shuichi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan, visited the ancient city of Mohenjo Daro, touring both the SD Site and the DK Area, where he gained firsthand insight into one of the world’s most remarkable archaeological sites. The visit highlighted Japan’s interest in cultural heritage and its support for preservation efforts in Pakistan.
During his tour of the DK sector, the ambassador inspected a fully preserved ancient house, expressing surprise and admiration at its exceptional condition. He noted that the sophistication of the structures, the wide streets, and the well-planned drainage system suggested that the people who inhabited the city thousands of years ago were extraordinarily advanced.

“The level of planning and construction here is truly impressive. Those who lived here must have been remarkable visionaries,” he said. Akamatsu also commended the cleanliness and careful maintenance of the site, praising the Mohenjo Daro administration for its ongoing dedication to preserving this unique heritage for future generations. His remarks underscored the global significance of the site, which is widely recognized as a symbol of early urban civilization.
During the visit, the curator of Mohenjo Daro presented traditional gifts, including a topi and ajrak, to Ambassador Akamatsu and his delegation, reflecting the rich cultural traditions of the region. The exchange served as a gesture of goodwill and highlighted the enduring cultural links between Pakistan and Japan.

Observers noted that the ambassador’s visit not only celebrated the ancient achievements of the Indus Valley civilization but also reinforced the importance of international collaboration in safeguarding historical heritage. The tour concluded with the ambassador expressing hope that continued preservation efforts would allow Mohenjo Daro to remain a source of knowledge and inspiration for generations to come.
