ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: The federal government appointed Javed Alam Odho as the new Inspector General of Sindh Police, following the impending retirement of the current IG, Ghulam Nabi Memon, who is set to leave office on 31 December. A formal notification confirmed that Odho would officially assume charge of the provincial police force from 1 January 2026.
The appointment comes at a challenging time for law enforcement in Sindh, where authorities are grappling with a range of urban policing issues, including rising crime rates, complex investigations, and persistent traffic management problems in Karachi and other major cities. Officials said Odho’s leadership would be closely watched as the province prepares to address both traditional and emerging security concerns.
Odho, a career police officer with extensive experience in administrative and operational roles, is expected to bring a strategic approach to crime prevention and organizational reforms. Analysts noted that Sindh Police faces mounting pressure to modernize its operational practices, strengthen community policing, and improve response times amid growing public expectations for safety and accountability.

Observers also highlighted the importance of smooth leadership transitions, noting that the change in provincial police leadership comes as the government seeks to bolster coordination between law enforcement agencies and local authorities. Odho’s tenure will be seen as a test of his ability to manage complex urban challenges while maintaining stability across the province.
The new appointment signals the federal government’s intent to reinforce law enforcement at a pivotal moment for Sindh, as residents continue to demand effective policing, reduced crime, and improved traffic management in the province’s rapidly growing urban center’s.
