QUETTA: Despite plunging winter temperatures, gas supply has been suspended in Quetta and surrounding areas, prompting sharp criticism from Jamaat-e-Islami’s district leadership. Maulana Samiullah Shahwani, Zubair Baloch, Ghulam Hussain Shahwani, Abdul Malik Agha, Yasir, and other party leaders expressed deep concern, distress, and strong protest over the disruption.

In a joint statement, the leaders noted that temperatures in Quetta have fallen below zero, making the gas shutdown a severe hardship for residents. They highlighted that for most households, gas is the primary source of heating and cooking. The disruption has forced people to rely on expensive or unsafe alternatives, including burning wood, increasing financial strain and risk of accidents and health hazards.

Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, women, and children are being particularly affected, with some families compelled to relocate to other areas due to lack of basic facilities, reflecting governmental negligence.

The statement criticized the provincial and federal governments for depriving citizens of essential utilities despite Balochistan’s rich natural resources, calling the situation an act of injustice and discrimination. Party leaders also pointed out that elected representatives have remained silent spectators while the public suffers severe mental and physical stress.

Jamaat-e-Islami Quetta has urged federal and provincial authorities, Sui Southern Gas Company, and relevant institutions to immediately restore uninterrupted gas supply, implement emergency measures for cold regions, and alleviate citizens’ hardships. The party warned that if these issues are not addressed seriously, it reserves the right to organize strong yet peaceful public protests in coordination with local communities.
