GHOTKI: A prominent local journalist, Tafeel Ahmed Rind, was shot dead this morning in Mirpur Mathelo, allegedly over a long-standing community dispute. According to police, the journalist, affiliated with a Sindhi daily, was on his way to drop his children at school when assailants opened fire. Miraculously, his children were unharmed.
Authorities transferred Rind’s body to Mirpur Mathelo Hospital. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local journalist community, with large numbers of media personnel arriving from across the district to express grief and solidarity.
Police sources indicated that the victim had been embroiled in a dispute with members of his own community for several years. Rind had previously been implicated in a murder case, serving approximately eighteen months in jail before being released on bail by the country’s higher courts. In a related incident earlier this year, the journalist’s cousin was also killed.
Investigations are ongoing, with police working to determine the full circumstances behind the killing. The tragedy underscores the persistent risks faced by journalists in the region, especially those reporting on sensitive local disputes. Mirpur Mathelo police confirmed the case is under active investigation.
