Press Release
KARACHI: A local court has directed the police to provide immediate protection to senior journalist Mohammad Kamran Zehri following death threats allegedly linked to his reporting on corruption. The directive was issued during a hearing at the Judicial Magistrate (South) court, where Zehri’s lawyer, Advocate Jahangir Kalhoro, presented his case.
Kalhoro informed the court that his client had received serious threats allegedly from Wasi Brothers after publishing a report exposing their alleged corruption within Sindh government department Karachi Development Authority (KDA). He argued that the threats posed a grave risk to Zehri’s safety and urged the court to intervene. In response, the honorable judge instructed the Station House Officer (SHO) of the relevant police station to ensure Zehri’s protection and submit a detailed report at the next hearing. Legal representatives for defendants also appeared in court during the proceedings. The court has scheduled the next hearing for April 11, where further developments in the case will be reviewed. The session will continue in the Judicial Magistrate (South) court.
