DADU: A one-day training workshop on “Sexual Exploitation, Sexual Abuse, Harassment and Gender-Based Violence (GBV)” was held in Dadu on Wednesday, bringing together a large number of local journalists in an effort to promote responsible reporting and raise awareness on sensitive issues.
The workshop was organized by Islamic Relief Pakistan and aimed to equip media professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to report GBV cases ethically, protect victims, and prevent further psychological harm. Experts at the session emphasized the critical need to safeguard victims’ identities, respect their dignity, and adhere to legal frameworks when covering cases of sexual exploitation or harassment.
They highlighted that insensitive reporting can exacerbate trauma, making ethical journalism an essential component of social reform. Speaking at the event, Islamic Relief officer Farah Khoso underscored the media’s pivotal role in shaping public awareness and stressed that journalists must approach GBV reporting with caution, professionalism, and ethical responsibility.
Farah Khoso noted that Islamic Relief continues to conduct similar awareness programs across districts, aiming to strengthen protection mechanisms for women and children and foster societal change.
The workshop was attended by President of Dadu Press Club Nizam Sheikh and journalists including Kamran Korai, Niaz Chandio, Sarwar Jalal Solangi, Danish Khushk, and Deedar Sheikh. Participants described the training as timely and crucial, noting that it enhanced their understanding of the complexities involved in covering GBV and sexual harassment cases.
The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, where journalists shared field experiences and received detailed guidance from experts. Attendees expressed hope that such workshops would continue, reinforcing collective efforts to combat sexual exploitation, harassment, and gender-based violence while promoting more informed and responsible media coverage.
