ISLAMABAD: On August 28, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman revealed that discussions with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are currently underway, signaling a potential thaw in relations between the two parties, known for their past rivalry. Fazl made these comments following a visit to the ailing Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
During his visit, Fazl engaged in discussions about the current political landscape, which includes the implications of the controversial February 8 elections. The revelation of these talks comes as both PTI and JUI-F are reassessing their positions in light of recent political developments. Both parties have been dissatisfied with the current ruling coalition, which could pave the way for a unified stance against the government. This shift hints at a possible strategic alliance as the political dynamics in Pakistan continue to evolve. Fazl, however, expressed skepticism about the government’s ability to complete its full term.
“I’m not a fortune teller to predict if the government will complete its term, but this parliament does not represent the people,” he remarked. This statement reflects ongoing dissatisfaction with the current administration and adds to the mounting political uncertainty. The talks between PTI and JUI-F, if they materialize into a formal alliance, could significantly alter the political landscape in Pakistan, especially given the historical tensions between the two parties. The potential cooperation between PTI and JUI-F may reshape opposition dynamics and influence the stability of the ruling coalition in the coming months.
