KARACHI: The Karachi administration has intensified measures to control prices of essential commodities during Ramadan, taking strict action against profiteers and conducting on-spot sales across the city.
According to a report from the Commissioner Karachi’s office, from February 19 to March 6, authorities acted against 3,739 profiteers, imposing fines totaling over Rs. 31.4 million. Eighty-one habitual offenders were arrested, and 90 shops were sealed for violating official price regulations.

To ensure affordable access for consumers, on-spot sales were held at 2,943 locations under the supervision of Assistant Commissioners. Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi said these measures were effective in curbing price spikes during the holy month.
A total of 38,326 kg of essential items worth Rs. 9,530,954 were sold, including 22,560 kg of fruits valued at Rs. 5,187,871, 7,404 kg of vegetables worth Rs. 325,362, meat and poultry worth Rs. 3,450,753, and groceries and other items worth Rs. 645,969.
Sales were distributed across the city’s districts as follows: Central over Rs. 1.1 million, South over Rs. 700,000, East over Rs. 1,021,000, Keamari over Rs. 600,000, Korangi over Rs. 3.8 million, West over Rs. 200,000, and Malir over Rs. 1,987,000.
The administration, in coordination with traders, consumer representatives, and relevant departments, continues to monitor prices and take strict action against profiteering to ensure essential commodities remain affordable throughout Ramadan.
