KARACHI: Karachi’s local government landscape appears set for a significant reshuffling, with the Sindh government preparing to transfer a number of high-ranking officials from key posts in various departments. Insiders reveal that the Additional Chief Secretary of Local Government, Khalid Haider Shah, along with the Director Generals of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Lyari Development Authority (LDA), Malir Development Authority (MDA), and Karachi Development Authority (KDA), may soon be replaced as part of a larger overhaul.
According to reliable sources, the decision to reshuffle these officials stems from ongoing evaluations of their performance, with changes expected to roll out in the coming days. In particular, the recent replacement of KDA’s Director General and appointments within the MDA, such as Afaaq Saeed to oversee the Gujjar Nullah project and Zulfiqar Abro as Project Director for Karachi’s Local Government Mega Project, signal the start of these organizational adjustments.
The reshuffle, being linked to a “seasonal shift” within Karachi’s local governance, aims to align key leadership with the administration’s strategic priorities. Former MDA Director General Mohammad Sohail is reportedly under consideration for a senior role either in the MDA or LDA, potentially bringing further shifts in Karachi’s urban management. These changes reflect the government’s drive to optimize local administration, with officials anticipated to be replaced one by one based on recent performance evaluations.
