KARACHI: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Karachi Syed Pir Muhammad Shah has ordered the removal of tape recorders installed in rickshaws across the city following public complaints and concerns raised by respected community representatives of Karachi.
The directives were issued during a meeting with a high-level delegation of the Anti Street Crime Forum Karachi, led by the Assistant Attorney General of Pakistan Syed Bashir Hussain Shah. The delegation also included Maulana Umar Farooq Qadri, Taha Mushtaq, Syed Usman-ul-Hassan Advocate and others.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted what they described as courageous and reform-oriented measures taken by the DIG Traffic. They specifically pointed out ongoing issues in Korangi and Malir districts, where chingchi rickshaws were reportedly playing loud music, creating public nuisance and showing a lack of respect towards women.
In response, DIG Traffic Syed Pir Muhammad Shah assured the delegation that strict action would be taken against such rickshaws across Karachi. He immediately issued orders for the removal of tape recorders from chingchi rickshaws, directed authorities to impound rickshaws involved in playing loud music, and ordered the arrest of drivers found violating the instructions.
Following the issuance of these orders, enforcement action began immediately across the city. The delegation expressed appreciation for the prompt initiation of the operation and thanked the DIG Traffic for acting on an emergency basis.
The delegation also praised the improvement in the traffic enforcement system, particularly the implementation of e-ticketing and digital challans, and described the initiative as a positive step towards better traffic management and public convenience in Karachi.
