KARACHI: A tense situation unfolded near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Wednesday when police apprehended a jeep driver who attempted to evade a checkpoint. The driver, later identified as Abdul Hadi, was found to be in possession of an illegal 9mm pistol.
The incident began when Abdul Hadi, traveling in a luxury imported vehicle with the registration BK 4595, was signaled to stop at a traffic checkpoint near Star Gate on Shahrah-e-Faisal. Instead of complying with the police’s request, he accelerated, prompting an immediate pursuit by the airport traffic police. As the situation escalated, additional police units joined the chase, eventually intercepting the vehicle at a subsequent checkpoint near the Madam traffic signal.
Upon searching the vehicle, the authorities discovered the unlicensed firearm. The police acted swiftly, ensuring that the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Station House Officer (SHO) Kaleem Musa of the Airport Police Station confirmed that Abdul Hadi, a resident of Gulshan-e-Jamal, had been arrested. A case was filed against him for illegal possession of a firearm.
As investigations continue, the authorities are focused on uncovering the motive behind Abdul Hadi’s attempt to flee the checkpoint and determining the source of the weapon. This event has raised concerns regarding public safety, especially in proximity to such high-traffic and high-security areas like the airport. The police are expected to intensify their efforts to track down other potential threats as they further probe the case.
