KARACHI: District administration South Karachi has sealed two major commercial buildings in the Saddar area over serious fire safety violations, officials confirmed.

Japan Market, a four-storey complex housing around 100 shops, was closed due to fire hazards, while Paradise Center, an eight-storey building, was sealed, affecting approximately 400 shops, warehouses, and workshops.

Deputy Commissioner South, Javed Nabi Khuso, said inspections revealed significant shortcomings in fire-fighting systems, emergency exit routes, and other mandatory safety arrangements. He stressed that the action was taken to prevent any untoward incident and to ensure the safety of citizens.
“The operation has been conducted in the interest of public life and property and in response to potential fire hazards,” Khuso added.
The district administration has emphasized that compliance with fire safety regulations is essential for all commercial establishments, warning that further violations will be met with strict action.
