KARACHI: Karachi is preparing for another day of heavy rainfall and strong winds as the ongoing monsoon system continues to impact the city. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted more downpours for the port-city, with temperatures expected to range between 25.5°C and 33°C. Over the past 24 hours, the city has already experienced significant rainfall, with Quaidabad recording the highest at 52 mm, followed by 46 mm in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, 30 mm in North Karachi, 26 mm in Nazimabad, and 25 mm in Surjani.
Other areas, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Keamari, and University Road, have also seen substantial rainfall, leading to water accumulation on roads, which has disrupted transportation and caused challenges for commuters. The heavy rains have further exacerbated the situation by causing power outages, leaving various parts of the city without electricity. In response to the severe weather conditions, the Sindh government has implemented precautionary measures to manage potential rain emergencies. Provincial Minister for Information, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced that a rain emergency cell has been established at the Chief Minister’s House to closely monitor the situation.
The government has also deployed necessary machinery and resources to ensure the timely drainage of water from low-lying areas, aiming to mitigate flooding and minimize public disruption. As Karachi continues to face the challenges posed by the monsoon, residents are urged to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours. The government’s efforts are focused on reducing the impact of the rain and ensuring the safety and well-being of the city’s inhabitants.
