MM Report
KARACHI: In Karachi, protesters from a religious group forced their way into the US Consulate following reports of a joint US-Israel strike that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Witnesses described scenes of chaos as demonstrators, many of them workers affiliated with a local religious organization, breached the consulate’s premises, overturning barricades and attempting to vandalize and set arson. Authorities said no casualties were reported during the incident, though the consulate compound suffered minor damage.
Police and paramilitary forces arrived swiftly to contain the crowd, dispersing protesters after several tense hours. The demonstration came amid heightened tensions, as news of the strike spread rapidly across social and traditional media, sparking protests not only in Karachi but all over the world including US.
Residents in the Clifton and surrounding areas reported traffic disruptions and an unusually heavy security presence, as streets near the diplomatic mission were cordoned off. Local shopkeepers described a sense of unease, with some closing early in anticipation of further unrest.
