KARACHI: Spencer Eye Hospital, one of Karachi’s best-known eye care centres, was closed for renovation until 31 March 2026, with authorities saying the work was aimed at upgrading facilities and improving patient care.
Officials said the hospital building, operation theatres, wards and outpatient department were being refurbished to meet modern medical standards. The upgrades were intended to provide a safer, more comfortable environment and improve the quality of treatment once services resumed.
According to the senior director of medical and health services, the renovation would allow the hospital to offer eye care in line with international standards. After reopening, the hospital was set to operate under the management of Eye Sight Trust, where treatment would be provided free of cost.
The hospital was expected to offer services for a wide range of eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, retinal diseases, paediatric eye problems and vision impairment. Treatment would be supported by advanced diagnostic equipment, modern laser technology and specialist doctors.
Hospital management said the project focused not only on medical improvements but also on patient convenience, safety and timely care. The upgraded facility was expected to include improved infection control systems, more comfortable waiting areas and better overall patient facilities.
Citizens were advised to seek care at alternative public or private eye hospitals during the closure period. The management said Spencer Eye Hospital would reopen soon and continue its long-standing role in eye care, with enhanced facilities and free treatment for patients.
