KARACHI: The investigation into the tragic Karsaz traffic accident, which claimed the lives of a father and daughter, has encountered delays and little progress. The suspect in the case, Natasha Danish, has been uncooperative, frequently altering her statements, further complicating the investigation.
Sources within the investigative team have disclosed that the completion of Natasha Danish’s medical report has been delayed, potentially requiring another two to three days. Samples collected from the suspect have been sent to two different laboratories for analysis, with a decision made to also send them to a lab in Lahore for further testing. The medical report is anticipated to play a pivotal role in advancing the investigation.
Further details have emerged regarding Natasha’s driving route on the day of the incident. She left her home in the KDA Scheme One area of Karsaz, traveling a distance of about 3 to 4 kilometers to visit her mother-in-law’s house. Throughout the investigation, it has been discovered that Natasha has been inconsistent in her statements, raising further suspicions.
Investigators are also working to verify whether Natasha holds a British driving license. Efforts are underway to gather details about her foreign driving license and citizenship status, which could be crucial in understanding the broader context of the case. Initially, the legal framework for the case was undermined by the inclusion of Section 320 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which pertains to accidental manslaughter.
However, the charges have since been revised to include Section 322, dealing with culpable homicide. Under Section 322, the punishment could range from 10 to 18 years of imprisonment, along with the payment of “diyat” (blood money). The victim’s family is entitled to compensation equivalent to 30,360 grams of silver, which, based on current rates, amounts to Rs 6.85 million. If the family accepts the diyat, the case may be closed.
In response to the complexities and high-profile nature of the case, the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, has decided to establish a special investigation team. An officer of SSP rank will be assigned to work closely with the team, and the case will be treated with the utmost priority to ensure justice is served.
