KARACHI: The Inspector General of Police Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, was warmly received at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Monday, where business leaders gathered to recognize his contributions to the city’s security and public safety.
KCCI President Rehan Hanif, along with senior traders including Javed Bulwani, Hafeez Aziz, and Imtiaz, welcomed the IGP, praising his efforts to restore law and order in Karachi, a city long challenged by crime and instability. “Today, we have gathered to pay tribute to your services,” Hanif said, highlighting that the police had not only ensured the safety of the business community but also created a secure environment for citizens.
Hanif lauded the swift police response to recent extortion complaints, describing it as exemplary and reflecting a commitment to protecting public interests. He said the city’s industrial and commercial sectors were increasingly benefiting from effective policing, improved surveillance, and rapid action against criminal elements.
Addressing the audience, IGP Memon emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police, community, and business stakeholders. “Police performance improves when citizens and stakeholders stand together. Without community support, policing cannot achieve the desired results,” he said. He also highlighted how technology has transformed crime prevention and detection, with over 40,000 modern cameras installed since 2019, creating a robust city-wide security network.
Memon detailed the role of community-based camera systems and smart analytics in raising crime detection rates to 80 per cent. He stressed that systems such as faceless policing, biometric verification, and the Employment Verification System had helped identify and apprehend thousands of criminal elements, while ensuring safer workplaces for industries.
He added that Karachi’s security improvements had also positively impacted economic activity. “When the police, traders, and the community work hand in hand, both peace and development are strengthened. Technology-based systems are permanent; leadership may change, but the system remains.”
The event concluded with KCCI members presenting the IGP with a commemorative shield in recognition of his services, attended by senior police officials, including the SSP of Safe City. The ceremony reflected the growing partnership between law enforcement and the business community in building a safer, more secure, and economically vibrant Karachi.
