KHAIRPUR: Authorities in Khairpur have launched a major initiative to relocate animal pens (wadas) from city areas to the designated Cattle Colony, aiming to enhance public hygiene, reduce inconvenience, and streamline urban management.
A high-level meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Sachal Sarmast Hall, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Altaf Ahmed Chachar. He directed the Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Director of Livestock, DSP City, and Survey Superintendent to immediately begin the process of shifting both existing and remaining animal pens. Officials were instructed to implement safety measures, basic facilities, electricity, and complete surveys as part of the relocation effort, with a progress report expected within 15 days.
The Municipal Committee of Khairpur will oversee the provision of essential amenities and lighting in the Cattle Colony. The DC highlighted that urban issues, including illegal encroachments, unregulated parking, and street-based vegetable and meat sales, will be systematically addressed. Open livestock grazing in city areas is now prohibited, while slaughterhouses will be upgraded to ensure proper facilities for butchers.
Daily progress reports will be submitted, with the DC and SSP Khairpur personally inspecting the work. Law enforcement agencies, municipal authorities, and revenue officials will jointly monitor compliance and submit detailed reports to higher authorities.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Assistant Commissioner Arslan Haider Phulpoto, Chairman Municipal Committee Dr. Yar Muhammad Phulpoto, DSP Asad Bhatti, Deputy Director Livestock Dr. Gadda Hussain, CMO Ghulam Qadir Tanyu, Professor Shah Muhammad Lehrani, Survey Superintendent Salahuddin Ghumro, Provincial Building Engineer Mir Muhammad Sheikh, Deputy Director Information Syed Sajid Hussain Shah, senior journalists, community leaders, and representatives of the Wada Association.
The district administration emphasised that the initiative is a priority to ensure a cleaner, safer city while reducing public inconvenience and improving urban infrastructure.
