TEHRAN: Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued his first recorded audio message, declaring that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed and warning that attacks will continue if United States military bases in the Middle East are not shut down.
Addressing the nation after assuming the position, Khamenei said Iran would not stop until it avenges those killed in recent attacks, particularly victims associated with the Manab School incident. He urged national unity, stating that the strength and solidarity of the Iranian people would ultimately defeat their enemies.
In the recorded message, he said all US military bases in the region should be closed immediately, warning that they could otherwise become targets. According to Khamenei, the presence of American forces in the region is fueling tensions and prolonging the conflict.
He reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz would remain blocked, stressing that his position carries responsibilities and that Iran must confront its adversaries. He also declared that the country would not abandon its right to avenge the blood of those killed.
Khamenei said Iran seeks friendly relations with neighbouring countries but insisted that Iranian forces are targeting only military bases and would continue doing so if necessary.
