DERA ISMAIL KHAN: In a large-scale anti-narcotics operation in District Khyber, the Excise Department recovered more than 718 kilograms of illegal drugs, foiling a major smuggling attempt, officials said. The operation was carried out under the zero-tolerance policy against narcotics directed by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Suhail Afridi and Provincial Minister for Excise Syed Fakhar Jahan.
Acting on instructions from Secretary Excise Khalid Ilyas and Director General Excise Abdul Haleem Khan, the operation was conducted in collaboration with law enforcement agencies in the remote areas of the district. According to officials, a total of 7,180,600 grams (718.06 kilograms) of narcotics were seized, including 615.5 kg hashish (bhang), 18.1 kg ice (crystal meth), 1.16 kg heroin, 13.3 kg opium, 70 kg charas, and 18 ecstasy pills.
The operation was supervised by Provincial In-charge Excise Intelligence Bureau Saud Khan Gandapur and Excise and Taxation Officer (Narcotics Control) Majid Khan. SHO Majid Hussain of Excise Station Khyber, Abu Zar Khan, and the EIB mobile squad participated in the successful raid with support from other law enforcement agencies. A case has been registered at Excise Police Station Khyber, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved in the smuggling network.
Chief Minister Suhail Afridi said narcotics pose a serious threat to society, especially to the youth, and stressed that the government would show no leniency in eliminating this menace. Excise Minister Syed Fakhar Jahan reaffirmed that the zero-tolerance policy would be strictly enforced and that the Excise Force is being further strengthened to ensure a drug-free province.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government remains committed to using all available resources to eradicate narcotics and safeguard the lives and future of its citizens.
