LANDI KOTAL: A public jirga organized by the Khyber Political Alliance was held at the Railway Station Ground in Landi Kotal, where a large number of political and social leaders, tribal elders, local government representatives and people from different walks of life participated.

The central agenda of the jirga was to deliberate on the problems facing Tehsil Landi Kotal and to explore sustainable solutions. Addressing the gathering, speakers said the problems of Landi Kotal had reached an alarming level.

They said the prolonged closure of the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham had severely affected the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people, leading to a dangerous rise in poverty, anxiety and social problems in the area.

The speakers expressed serious concern over the deteriorating condition of the District Headquarters Hospital in Landi Kotal, saying the facility lacked basic amenities and that even patients with minor ailments were routinely referred to Peshawar.

They said effective treatment for illnesses beyond common colds, coughs and fever was no longer possible at the hospital, calling it a grave injustice to the local population.

The jirga was addressed by the president of the Khyber Political Alliance, Murad Hussain Afridi, Malik Darya Khan Afridi, Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid Shinwari, Haji Zarbullah, also known as Haji Baba, Shakir Afridi, Maulana Azim Shah, the president of the Teachers’ Organisation Sharifullah Afridi, the chairman of the Hundred Organisation Maroof Khan Afridi, as well as Akhtar Ali, Sattar Afghan, Farman Shinwari and other leaders.
