KHYBER: The annual elections of the District Press Club Khyber have been completed in Landi Kotal, with Aman Ali Shinwari elected president and Hijrat Ali Afridi chosen as general secretary.

The elections were held under the supervision of senior members of the legal community, including Khyber Bar Association president Advocate Abrar Afridi, along with Advocate Taj Mahal and Advocate Ahmedullah Khattak, in line with directives from the information department. The process was described as transparent and peaceful.

As no nomination papers were submitted by other members for most offices by 26 December, Shinwari and several cabinet members were elected unopposed. A contest took place only for the post of general secretary, where Hijrat Ali Afridi secured victory with 11 votes, defeating Jibran Shinwari, who received nine.

Announcing the results, the president of the District Bar Khyber praised journalists for their constructive role in completing the voting process in a democratic manner and thanked lawyers, media representatives and police personnel for their cooperation.

Security arrangements were put in place on the instructions of DPO Khyber Waqar Ahmed, with SHO Landi Kotal Zahid Afridi overseeing deployment. Local figures, including Landi Kotal chairman Shah Khalid Shinwari and customs agents Mujeeb Shinwari and Aftab Shinwari, observed the polling at the Landi Kotal Bar Council and commended the calm and orderly conduct of the election.

Other office-bearers elected include senior vice-president Ahmed Nabi, vice-president Parvez Afridi, joint secretary Shahid Ali Afridi, finance secretary Mian Sajid and press secretary Rahat Shinwari. Following the announcement of results, local residents and colleagues gathered to congratulate the newly elected cabinet.
