KARACHI: The 14th meeting of the Korangi Town Council, chaired by Muhammad Naeem Sheikh, concluded with the approval of several key resolutions and development initiatives aimed at enhancing the town’s infrastructure, public services, and administrative efficiency.
The session brought together a wide array of officials, including Town Vice-Chairperson Zareen Awan, council members, union council chairpersons, opposition leader Muhammad Haroon, parliamentary leader Tanveer Abbasi, and senior municipal officers. The proceedings began with the presentation of the agenda and the unanimous ratification of the previous session’s minutes.
Among the major decisions, the council extended a one-year contract for a private lawyer to manage legal matters and represent the Town Municipal Corporation in high-profile cases. The council also approved recreational projects for children, including swings and a “tick shop” at Benazir Park in Korangi 2, Union Council 7, and a jumping castle with mini token rides at Qayyum Park in Union Council 5.
To strengthen legal support, the council sanctioned the engagement of Laghari & Associates on a temporary monthly contract to handle civil, constitutional, criminal, banking, and corporate matters. In addition, a NADRA Mega Centre was approved for Korangi 1, behind Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Park and opposite Nageena Mosque, to simplify access to national identity documents for local residents.
Speaking at the meeting, Muhammad Naeem Sheikh commended the council members for their efforts in promoting development, cleanliness, and public welfare across Korangi Town. He reaffirmed his commitment to executing all public projects promptly, ensuring modern and improved facilities for the community.
