PESHAWAR: Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Adviser to the Information Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has announced a referendum against the federal government scheduled for today. The announcement signals a potential escalation in political pressure on the federal administration, with the referendum and a related rally in Swabi being framed as key components of this campaign.
In a media briefing, Barrister Saif underscored the referendum’s significance, describing it as a crucial step in advancing Pakistan’s progress. He emphasized that the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is vital for the nation’s advancement. Saif accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of compromising national interests by succumbing to the demands of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and imposing Independent Power Producers (IPPs) on the public. He contended that these actions have worsened the country’s economic difficulties and made it more vulnerable.
Saif also criticized the federal government for its perceived failure to implement a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism, arguing that the PML-N’s governance has not met the country’s needs. He claimed that elections are necessary to address what he described as “mandate thieves” and reaffirmed PTI’s commitment to genuine freedom, constitutional adherence, and the rule of law. The referendum is positioned as a strategic maneuver by PTI to rally public support and amplify pressure on the current federal government, which is grappling with ongoing political and economic challenges.
