PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement, Aqibullah Khan, strongly rejected the federal government’s statement on the displacement of residents from Tirah Valley, accusing the centre of attempting to shift blame onto the provincial government.
He noted that the nation is aware of federal ministers’ speeches in the National Assembly regarding the military operation in Tirah Valley. He added that the official letter issued by the Deputy Commissioner and the position of the 24-member local committee of Tirah are publicly available.
Aqibullah Khan said that residents were forced to migrate due to the operation and that Chief Minister Muhammad Suhail Afridi had repeatedly clarified the provincial government’s stance. He recalled that during the peace jirga in the provincial assembly, all political parties had jointly opposed the operation.
The minister criticised the federal government for imposing decisions on the public and leaving affected people unsupported, describing their statement as “extremely ridiculous.” He added that the provincial government had promptly released funds to provide immediate relief to displaced families, emphasising that the province would not abandon those forced to leave their homes.
Aqibullah Khan concluded by asserting that the federal government’s claims about the Tirah evacuation were baseless, fabricated, and misleading, and stated that such attempts to distort facts would not be allowed to succeed.
