PESHAWAR: The Chairperson of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) concluded participation in the Pakistan–Indonesia Exposure and Learning Visit on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) held from 19–24 January 2026, supported by UN Women.
Representing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Chairperson joined a high-level Pakistani delegation that included Federal Secretary Human Rights Khalique Sadique, Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women Ume Laila, Chairperson of the Balochistan Commission on the Status of Women Kiran Baloch, and representatives from civil society organizations.
During the visit, the delegation engaged with Indonesian government institutions, police leadership, national women and human rights commissions, and civil society actors. Discussions focused on integrated justice sector responses, community-based peacebuilding models, women’s leadership in peace and security institutions, and localization of the WPS agenda.
The delegation reviewed Indonesia’s Peace Village model, community-oriented policing, early warning systems, and women-led resilience initiatives aimed at conflict prevention and social cohesion. Engagements with police training academies and oversight bodies highlighted best practices in gender-responsive policing, institutional coordination, and grassroots-level service delivery.
The Chairperson noted that while Pakistan has strong legislative and policy frameworks for women’s rights, challenges remain in governance and implementation, particularly in conflict-affected and marginalized areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She reaffirmed KPCSW’s commitment to applying lessons from Indonesia to strengthen provincial institutions, enhance women’s participation in peace and security decision-making, and advance localized implementation of the WPS agenda.
Appreciation was expressed for UN Women Pakistan and UN Women Indonesia for facilitating South–South cooperation and knowledge exchange. The visit is expected to inform policy reforms and strengthen institutional practices for women’s empowerment, peace, and justice in the province.
