SUKKUR: Shahid Abdul Salam Thaheem, the Provincial Minister for Labor & Human Resources and Chairman of the Sindh Social Security Institution (SESSI) Governing Body, inaugurated the newly upgraded Sukkur Social Security Poly Clinic Hospital. This facility now includes 25 beds and marks a significant step in improving healthcare access for workers in the region. Following the inauguration, Thaheem toured various hospital wards, including the OPD and Gynecology Ward, and emphasized the importance of expanding healthcare services for laborers in the province.
Shahid Abdul Salam Thaheem announced that similar health facilities would soon be established in Daharki and Mithi to provide workers with comprehensive healthcare. He also addressed the hospital’s current limitations, noting that the number of incubators was insufficient and would be increased. In addition to this, the Minister revealed plans to build a specialized cancer hospital in Karachi dedicated to treating laborers, addressing a critical need for cancer care within the labor community. Currently, cancer patients are referred to other hospitals, but this new facility will provide specialized treatment for workers.
The Minister also announced the construction of a labor colony for mine workers in Mithi. He called on media personnel, cameramen, and other workers to register with the Sindh Social Security Institute to access healthcare and other benefits. He emphasized that workers must be officially registered to avail of these services, and warned that companies failing to register their workers would face legal action. Thaheem also noted the ongoing issue with Sukkur Labor Flats, which were used as a quarantine center during the COVID-19 pandemic but have since been illegally occupied.
