KARACHI: A delegation of the Peoples Labour Bureau Korangi, led by district president Adnan Habib Siddiqui, met Sindh president Habibuddin Junaidi at his residence to discuss workers’ issues in the Korangi Industrial Area.
During the meeting, Siddiqui said that around 85% of industries were not paying the minimum wage of Rs40,000 approved by the Sindh government. He alleged that workers were being made to work beyond eight hours without overtime compensation.
He also highlighted poor safety conditions in smaller industries, saying that fire safety systems were largely absent and there were no proper emergency exits in case of accidents. Registration of workers with institutions such as Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution and Sindh Employees’ Social Security Institution was minimal, he added.
Siddiqui further claimed that factory managements often dismissed employees without explanation, while basic medical facilities were not provided. He said workers were contributing significantly to industrial output but were being denied their due rights.
Junaidi praised Siddiqui’s efforts and his team’s work in Korangi, assuring full support to address workers’ concerns. He said the bureau would stand alongside labourers in the private sector to help them secure their rights and would take up their issues with relevant authorities where necessary.
