LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars have fined captain Shaheen Shah Afridi Rs1 million following a security breach at the team hotel. The franchise said the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding but stressed accountability and discipline.
According to the team, a comprehensive internal investigation was conducted into the incident on March 28. The review found that an unusual situation occurred involving a violation of security protocol. Shaheen Afridi reportedly allowed guests of teammate Sikandar Raza into the players’ area despite security staff denying permission. As a result, the captain was fined Rs1 million as part of disciplinary action.
The Qalandars clarified that the matter resulted from a misunderstanding rather than a deliberate violation. They said the incident had been exaggerated in some reports and reaffirmed their respect for all security protocols, highlighting the importance of discipline within the team environment. The decision was formally communicated to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and the franchise praised the role of security personnel in maintaining safety standards.
The management also stressed the need for clearer communication of procedures to prevent similar misunderstandings in the future.
In the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, the Shaheen-led Qalandars are currently second on the points table, with two points from two matches. They won their opening match against Hyderabad Kingsmen on March 26 but lost by four wickets to Karachi Kings. During that match, the team was penalized five runs for allegedly altering the condition of the ball.
Additionally, Qalandars batter Fakhar Zaman has been charged with a Level 3 offence under Article 2.14 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel for an alleged breach of Article 41.3 of the playing conditions, which prohibits actions that change the condition of the ball.
