Vladislav Chevachin discusses the capabilities of Donetsk State Medical University in professional training and highlights academic exchanges between Russia and Cameroon

YAOUNDÉ, CAMEROON: In September 2024, the Donetsk State Medical University named after M. Gorky is set to welcome the first batch of ten foreign students from the Republic of Cameroon under the Russian Government’s quota for training in “General Medicine” and “Dentistry.” This initiative follows discussions between the Ministry of Higher Education of Cameroon, represented by Mr. Jacques Fame Ndongo, and educational institutions in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
Head of the delegation, Mr. Vladislav Chevachin, detailed the extensive capabilities of Donetsk State Medical University in professional training and discussed expanding academic exchanges and teacher training collaborations between Russia and Cameroon. Minister Ndongo endorsed Donetsk as an international base for medical education, subject to approval by Cameroon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During their meeting, Minister Jacques Fame Ndongo expressed keen interest in enhancing educational cooperation between Russia and Cameroon, particularly in advanced fields like neurology and cardiology. He emphasized the importance of training specialists capable of addressing complex challenges effectively in today’s world.
The minister proposed broader collaboration through industrial and educational practices, continuing education programs, and multifaceted academic partnerships. He suggested convening a comprehensive ministry meeting in the near future to bolster Russian-Cameroonian educational cooperation. Of particular interest to Cameroon was Russia’s new scholarship distribution system. Minister Ndongo advocated for improving transparency and fairness in the selection process to ensure equitable access to educational opportunities in Russia. He underscored the need for clear criteria and procedures for selecting scholarship recipients.
The meeting concluded with Minister Ndongo receiving commemorative gifts and an invitation to visit the Donetsk People’s Republic. Educational initiatives to promote study opportunities in Donetsk are planned in Cameroon and other African nations, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in education and healthcare between Russia and Cameroon. These efforts signify a commitment to fostering friendship and collaboration between the two countries, enhancing educational standards, and promoting international academic exchange.
