Karachi: In the wake of a deadly attack on Chinese nationals at Karachi Airport, the Sindh Home Department has announced the formation of an eight-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the incident. The attack, which claimed the lives of two Chinese nationals and injured others, has raised serious concerns over the safety of foreign nationals in Pakistan.
The JIT will be led by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and include officers from the Rangers, Special Branch, Karachi Police, and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). According to the notification, the team will focus on interrogating two arrested suspects, Javed and Gul Nisa, believed to be linked to the incident. Both suspects were apprehended from locations in Sindh and Balochistan.
The investigation is expected to uncover the motives behind the attack and assess whether it was an isolated event or part of a larger conspiracy targeting Chinese nationals. The Chinese victims were present at the airport when the explosion occurred, underscoring the need for enhanced security protocols at key installations.
The JIT has been directed to complete its investigation and submit findings to the Home Department within 15 days. This development is critical as Pakistan seeks to reassure its Chinese partners of their safety amidst growing cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
