The Russian foreign minister emphasized “the position that it is necessary to immediately stop violence, resolve humanitarian problems”

RIYADH: In a significant address following the Russia-Gulf Cooperation Council Strategic Dialogue, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov underscored the urgent need for practical steps toward the establishment of a Palestinian state. The dialogue, held in Riyadh on September 8, emphasized the importance of halting violence, addressing humanitarian crises, and advancing efforts to secure peace between Israel and Palestine.
Lavrov, addressing the pressing issues in Gaza and the West Bank, highlighted the shared stance of Russia and Gulf countries on the necessity to end violence and resolve humanitarian problems. He reaffirmed the commitment to implementing United Nations resolutions aimed at establishing a Palestinian state that would coexist peacefully with Israel. “We share the position that it is necessary to immediately stop violence, resolve humanitarian problems, and begin practical work to implement the United Nations’ resolution on the establishment of the Palestinian State that will co-exist with Israel in peace and security,” Lavrov stated.
The Russia-Gulf Cooperation Council Strategic Dialogue, which focuses on regional and international issues, has been particularly concerned with the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine. The dialogue reflects a unified call for immediate action to address these crises and to reaffirm the commitment to a two-state solution, as envisioned by the United Nations. This approach is intended to bring lasting peace to one of the world’s most contentious regions.
During his visit, Lavrov engaged in bilateral discussions with several key international leaders, reinforcing Russia’s commitment to fostering dialogue and peace in the Middle East. His meetings included discussions with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. Additionally, Lavrov met with the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.
These meetings underscored a collective regional and international resolve to address the Palestinian issue and work towards a sustainable resolution. The joint Russian-Gulf stance emphasizes a renewed commitment to a two-state solution, seeking to address the longstanding conflict through diplomatic and practical measures. This approach aims to align with the United Nations’ framework for establishing peace and stability in the Middle East.
