DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Members of the Dera Press Club have declared the club’s current cabinet unconstitutional, citing irregularities in its formation and threatening legal action if the matter is not addressed.
A key meeting was held under the chairmanship of General Secretary Iqbal Bhatti to review the club’s organizational situation and recent administrative developments. Participants included Saeedullah Marwat, Muhammad Irfan Mughal, Abu al-Moazzam Turabi, Sheikh Tauqeer Akram Habibani, Mustafa Kamal, Ahmed Nawaz Mughal, Malik Adnan, and other members.
After detailed discussions, the attendees unanimously rejected the cabinet, stating it had been formed through an illegal and non-transparent process. Members criticised what they described as a “selection” process in place of proper elections, noting that the former president had unilaterally announced the new cabinet without consultation or completion of the constitutional electoral procedure. They called the move a clear violation of the Press Club’s constitution and bylaws.
The meeting noted that the newly announced cabinet neither emerged through mutual consultation, as required under the constitution, nor followed a formal electoral procedure, and therefore holds no legal authority to make decisions on behalf of the club.
A written complaint has already been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Dera Ismail Khan and other relevant authorities, who are currently reviewing the matter. Members also condemned the removal of dissenting members from the club’s official WhatsApp group after they raised objections, calling it an example of personal dictatorship.
The journalists reaffirmed their commitment to resolving the matter peacefully and constitutionally. However, they warned that if authorities fail to intervene and the disputed cabinet continues to impose decisions, they will pursue all lawful options to protect their rights.
