KARACHI: The Early Warning Centre of the Meteorological Department has forecasted a period of warm and humid weather for Karachi, with partly cloudy skies expected to prevail until Sunday. The city can anticipate a mix of light rain, drizzle, and occasional showers over the next three days, contributing to a somewhat varied weather pattern.
The temperature during this time is projected to range between 33 to 35 degrees Celsius. Historically, Karachi’s climate in July has often been characterized by high temperatures and humidity, typical of the monsoon season. Sea breezes, which are a significant feature of Karachi’s climate, are expected to persist, providing some respite from the heat. This phenomenon is particularly crucial in moderating temperatures in the city, a trend observed in historical weather patterns.
Sindh, the province in which Karachi is situated, generally experiences intense heat and humidity during this time of year. Karachi’s coastal location often influences its weather, with sea breezes offering a cooling effect. This contrasts with the interior districts of Sindh, which tend to face more severe heat conditions and lower chances of rainfall.
In historical context, Karachi has faced severe weather events in the past, including heatwaves and heavy monsoon rains. For instance, the city experienced an extreme heatwave in 2015 that led to significant health impacts. Similarly, the monsoon season often brings irregular weather patterns, with occasional flooding in coastal areas.
The current forecast’s expected light rain in coastal regions aligns with this historical variability, providing some much-needed relief from the hot weather. Overall, the forecasted weather pattern reflects a familiar seasonal trend for Karachi and its surrounding areas, balancing the city’s typically hot and humid conditions with intermittent relief from rain and sea breezes.
