DADU: In an effort to ease inflationary pressures, low-cost clothing stalls have been set up on major commercial roads in Dadu, offering complete outfits at affordable rates.
While members of the labor class in Dadu, Mehar, and Khairpur Nathan Shah have welcomed the initiative, purchasing outfits for as low as Rs1,000, local traders and shopkeepers have staged a protest in front of the Dadu Press Club. During a press conference, they opposed the sale of cheap clothing and urged the district administration to intervene.
Laborers including Mumtaz Machhi, Nazir Abbasi, Shahmeer Solangi, and Ms. Soni accused major shops of charging three times higher prices for clothes, shoes, and sandals. They appealed to authorities to regulate pricing so that families, particularly ahead of Eid, can afford new clothing for their children.
The initiative highlights a growing divide between affordability for low-income residents and the interests of established retailers in the district.
