JAMSHORO: An alarming incident occurred at the Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS) Hospital in Jamshoro, where a man allegedly attempted to set fire to the hospital’s OPD store after being denied prescribed medicines.
According to details, the patient visited the OPD for treatment and was prescribed medicines by a doctor. Upon approaching the hospital’s OPD store, he was informed by staff that the medicines were unavailable and was advised to purchase them from outside. Frustrated by the situation, the man returned later carrying a bottle of petrol, intending to set the store on fire.
Hospital security personnel intervened promptly and restrained the individual before any damage occurred. Following questioning and instructions, he was released. This incident highlights ongoing complaints about medicine shortages at LUMHS. Patients have also raised concerns about being compelled to undergo costly diagnostic tests, while authorities have reportedly taken little effective action.
Daily, over 500 patients visit the LUMHS OPD, yet many are forced to purchase prescribed medicines from private pharmacies. Reports indicate that patients are often provided with only a single type of government-supplied medicine, irrespective of their medical condition.
