DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Major Adil Zaman, a Pakistan Army officer hailing from Mohallah Garhi Sadozai in Dera Ismail Khan, was killed during an anti-terrorism operation in Bajaur district, officials confirmed.
The operation, launched on the basis of intelligence reports indicating the presence of militants in the area, turned into a fierce encounter when security forces came under heavy fire. In the exchange, Major Zaman was martyred, while two other personnel sustained injuries and were evacuated for medical treatment.
The news of his death sent ripples of grief through his hometown, with local residents, political leaders, and social figures expressing profound sorrow at the loss. Tributes poured in across social media and public forums, with many highlighting his bravery and dedication to protecting the country.
Major Zaman’s colleagues remembered him as a committed officer who placed the nation’s security above personal safety. Officials emphasized that his sacrifice exemplified the continued risks faced by the military in counter-terrorism operations along Pakistan’s northwestern border regions.
Bajaur district, a historically sensitive area, has long been a focus of military and security operations aimed at dismantling militant networks and safeguarding civilians. Analysts noted that such operations often involve high-risk engagements, underscoring the courage required of officers like Major Zaman.
In Islamabad, government and military representatives paid homage to his service, reaffirming the nation’s respect for armed forces personnel who lay down their lives in defence of Pakistan. While the loss was mourned nationally, officials insisted that counter-terrorism efforts would continue unabated, framing Major Zaman’s sacrifice as part of a broader commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the country’s most vulnerable regions.
