KARACHI: The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan inaugurated the International Medical Education Conference 2026 at its Karachi headquarters, drawing senior medical leaders from Pakistan and abroad.
Held under the theme “Enhancing Competence, Compassion, and Resilience through Innovation and Collaboration,” the conference focused on technical excellence alongside human values, ethics, empathy, and resilience as core elements of modern medical education.
The opening session began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem. In his welcome address, Professor Dr Khalid Masood Gondal underlined the need to train physicians who are not only clinically competent but also compassionate, ethically grounded, and resilient. He reaffirmed CPSP’s commitment to quality, innovation, and international collaboration in postgraduate medical education.
The conference brought together a wide range of international participants, including Dr Marcia Clark, president of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; Professor Dr Hany Etieiba, president of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow; Professor Rowan W Parks, former president of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh; Professor Johan Fragan, former president of the Colleges of Medicine, South Africa; Dr A S Modise Zakaria Koto, president of the College of Medicine, South Africa; and Dr A S Thanyadej Nimanwudipong, president of the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand. The conference was formally inaugurated by Professor Dr Gondal in his capacity as president of CPSP.
Professor Dr Muhammad Aamir Zaman Khan, director general of medical education and CPSP councillor, briefed participants on the structure of the conference. He outlined key areas of discussion, including innovation in education and practice, faculty development, leadership and governance, and professionalism, compassion, resilience, and social responsibility.
