KARACHI: The realm of ghazal music has felt a void since the legendary Mehdi Hassan Khan, leaving fans longing for the lyrical beauty he once provided. In an effort to revive this fading art form, his son and heir, Kamran Mehdi Hassan, is set to embark on a journey to Pakistan from the United States. His mission is to rekindle the essence of his father’s timeless ghazals while captivating audiences with new compositions. The events surrounding this initiative are being organized under the leadership of Dr. Raees Merchant and Faisal Nadeem.
The tour will commence on October 26 with a visit to Mehdi Hassan Khan’s shrine, where renowned artists from Karachi will join at 4 PM. A show will be held on October 28 at the Pakistan American Cultural Center in Karachi, with the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, as the chief guest. This event will also celebrate the six-year recognition of a book written by Faisal Nadeem, focusing on Mehdi Hassan Khan’s life and works. Kamran Mehdi Hassan will open the program with his father’s iconic ghazals.
On October 29, another event is scheduled at the Karachi Press Club, where dignitaries and artists will witness the dawn of a new era in ghazal music. Kamran Mehdi Hassan will participate in various television shows from September 30 to October 3 and will be a central figure in the Golden Jubilee program of Bazm-e-Mehdi Hassan. On October 4, a Ghazal Night will take place at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore under the auspices of EMI Pakistan, where artists will pay tribute to Mehdi Hassan Khan, and Kamran Mehdi Hassan will enchant the audience with his melodious voice.
An event in honor of Kamran Mehdi Hassan will be held at the Islamabad Press Club on October 5, where he will pay homage to his father’s ghazals. On October 6, a celebration of Mehdi Hassan will take place at the Rawalpindi Gymkhana, featuring Kamran Mehdi Hassan performing his father’s famous ghazals. On October 7, a private gathering in Islamabad will allow ghazal enthusiasts to indulge in a delightful evening. Kamran Mehdi Hassan will visit his hometown, Chichawatni, on October 8, where he plans to reconnect with family and reminisce about his roots.
A special event for the people of Faisalabad is scheduled for October 9, followed by a Ghazal evening at the Sahiwal Arts Council on October 10. The grand finale of the Mehdi Hassan celebrations will be held on October 11 at the Alhamra Arts Council in Lahore, hosted by renowned figures from the Leader Media Group, Allama Siddique Azhar and Ali Muhammad Dhilon. The last event of the tour will occur on October 12 in Chakwal, where Kamran Mehdi Hassan will showcase his artistic talent.
