ISLAMABAD: Former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has firmly rejected the claim that the founder of PTI, Imran Khan, was released from jail due to American intervention. Speaking during the Karachi Literature Festival, Ismail clarified that Khan’s release from prison was not dependent on foreign powers, specifically the United States. He asserted that Khan would eventually be freed for reasons unrelated to international influence.

Ismail also discussed the economic challenges facing Pakistan, stressing that essential sectors such as health, education, and employment require urgent reform. He pointed out that the country continues to struggle with unemployment and inflation, highlighting the government’s failure to address these pressing issues. Moreover, Ismail expressed concerns about state-owned entities like PIA and Pakistan Steel Mills, suggesting that Pakistan cannot afford to ignore the sustainability of such institutions.

On the ongoing water crisis in Karachi, Ismail emphasized that despite years of development, the city still faces an inequitable distribution of water. He also addressed the stock market’s recent performance, noting that while it may benefit certain individuals, it does not reflect the broader needs of the economy.
