ISLAMABAD: The military’s internal accountability process has seen a significant escalation, with increased arrests following the detention of former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed. Sources reveal that the accountability drive is broadening, extending beyond the high-profile court-martial of the former ISI chief to include investigations involving lower-ranking personnel, including jail orderlies. Further arrests and significant disclosures are anticipated in the coming days.

The accountability measures are reportedly tightening the net around individuals, both within Pakistan and internationally, who are allegedly involved in anti-institution rhetoric. Sources indicated that the military’s internal scrutiny has intensified, driven by concerns raised after General Bajwa discovered that General Faiz Hameed may have been using his position to advance Imran Khan’s personal agenda.

On August 15, during a meeting at Adiala Jail, Imran Khan reportedly referred to Faiz Hameed as his “asset,” highlighting the extent of their connection. The sources disclosed that the alleged Faiz-Niazi nexus was involved in the Top City land scam, with General Faiz purportedly assembling teams of favored officers who continued facilitating operations even after his retirement. This alleged nexus, according to sources, was active in handling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) affairs and facilitating communication between both sides.

The gravity of the situation was underscored by the sources, who noted that the court-martial of a former ISI DG for the first time in 70 years signifies a very serious situation. The accountability drive is not limited to the Top City land scam but is also addressing broader concerns about unrest and instability allegedly planned in collusion with Imran Khan. The sources remarked that the ongoing disintegration within PTI, marked by resignations and infighting, underscores the deep-rooted nature of the Faiz-Niazi nexus and its impact on state stability.

In summary, the military’s intensified accountability efforts signal a broader crackdown on perceived threats to institutional integrity, with significant ramifications for individuals implicated in undermining state security and stability.
