LAHORE: A recent audit report presented in the Punjab Assembly has revealed that weapons and ammunition worth millions of rupees have gone missing from various departments under the supervision of the Punjab Home Department.
The report covers the period between 2021 and 2024, during which significant quantities of arms and explosives disappeared. The missing items include equipment from the offices of the Deputy Inspector General Operations in Lahore, Lahore Police Headquarters, and police offices in twelve other districts.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department confirmed that inquiries have been initiated and all subordinate agencies have been asked to provide explanations regarding the missing arms and ammunition. The findings have raised serious concerns about oversight and security within the police departments and have prompted calls for a thorough investigation to identify those responsible.
