MUMBAI: Ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final, the Indian cricket team postponed its practice session by nearly an our due to a lunar eclipse, with some players believing it to be inauspicious.
The session, originally scheduled for 6:00 pm, was delayed to 6:47 pm at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, ahead of Thursday’s crucial semi-final against England. Reports suggest that team members and staff preferred to avoid practice during the eclipse.
Indian players have also been observed performing various religious rituals during the tournament. Captain Surya Kumar Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, and head coach Gautam Gambhir reportedly visited temples in different cities
This semi-final marks the third consecutive T20 World Cup clash between India and England at this stage. Historically, the winner of previous semi-finals between these teams went on to claim the championship: England beat India in 2022, while India defeated England in 2024 to later win the final against South Africa.
At Wankhede Stadium, England has played 6 T20 matches, winning 3, whereas India has won 5 out of 7, remaining unbeaten at this venue since December 2017.
