MOSCOW: Russia has reaffirmed its commitment to supplying oil and petroleum products to Cuba, calling it a duty as the Caribbean nation struggles with acute fuel shortages caused by stringent international sanctions.
A spokesperson for the Kremlin said that supporting Cuba’s energy needs remained a priority, emphasizing that the recent arrival of a Russian oil tanker on the island marked a significant step in ensuring the country’s fuel security. The official confirmed that Russia intends to continue providing oil shipments to Cuba in the foreseeable future.
The spokesperson also revealed that oil supply to Cuba had been a topic of discussion during recent talks with the United States, signaling Moscow’s awareness of the geopolitical sensitivities surrounding energy support for the island.
Separately, Russian authorities confirmed that an oil tanker carrying 100,000 metric tonnes of crude oil had successfully arrived in Cuba on Monday, underlining Moscow’s practical commitment to maintaining uninterrupted energy deliveries despite international pressures. The move is seen as a demonstration of Russia’s strategic support for Cuba amid mounting global sanctions.
This step highlights the growing economic and political alignment between the two nations, with Russia positioning itself as a key energy partner for Cuba in a period of heightened global scrutiny.
